A Call for Responsible Journalism

Lambasting the present administration is not really constructive criticism. If you are not part of the solution then surely you are part of the problem. Is it really fair, as a journalist to list down all the faults of PGMA and not at all mention her legit accomplishments? Are we really working for the good of our fellowmen?
I am in no way a great fan of PGMA but inciting bad press without providing alternate solutions cannot be considered good pieces—unless we are working for the opposition. Unless they were paying us to do nothing but criticize and push Juan de la Cruz further down the development ladder. Otherwise, there is really no greater purpose to let our fellowmen down.
So I am calling all writers who are still pursuing that perfect story for this coming election. Why not let it be about something positive for our country without biting into showbiz-like controversies? Let us do our job of perfectly snooping into the accomplishments and non-performances of our presidential candidates.
The new president’s leadership will soon affect all of us, not just in the media, but ALL of us. We should unite this once for this purpose at least. Then we shall see, and we shall let the entire country see who truly deserves our vote. Together we can do this. We already should know by now how powerful media can be in this country, let us stop denying it is in our hands than can make a positive change.
All it would take is responsible journalism at its best. Let us do our homeworks and let us remember what first brought us into this profession-the adventure of being in the beat, the victory of uncovering the story of a lifetime. Let this lifetime matter. Let us strive to at least try an honest President with no controversies and nothing but good old clean politics to his name. Shouldn’t Juan dela Cruz deserve to have a good government? No linkages to the left, no briberies with our police, no leftover porkbarrel to pocket—nothing but a clean name and an even more impressive accomplishment sheet. All our presidential candidates have been government servants for quite some time now, they should have enough credits to their name already to deserve the presidency. Let us discover who truly deserves to win and make ourselves count.
